Lissa Sloan’s “Jewels and Honey” is the perfect short story to read when you need comfort with a dose of fairytale magic. Set in the world of Glass and Feathers, a reimagining of Cinderella, “Jewels and Honey” continues with the servants of the Queen. While their story seems small in comparison to Cinderella’s, their struggles are as real and as big as the royalty’s. Sloan’s writing eases you out of the world and lets the words’ melody carry you into very real societal questions while still allowing the reader to feel cushioned. “Jewels and Honey” does not disappoint, and I cannot wait.
